  • The Ombudsman is appointed by Ministers of the Scottish Executive to review how the Society handles complaints.
  • The current Ombudsman is Mrs Jane Irvine.
  • The Ombudsman does not change the Society's decisions.
  • The Ombudsman can make recommendations to the Society about how your case was handled, perhaps suggesting it should be re-opened to examine specific elements more closely.
  • The Ombudsman will consider complaints made within six months of the date of the letter telling you the decision in your case.
