Law Reform Committee
The Law Reform Committee is a Council Committee which oversees the work of all Sub-Committees administered by the department. This included approving consultation responses and minutes produced by Sub-Committees as well as the appointment of new members. When deemed appropriate, the Committee sometimes responds to a consultation independently:
Public Services Reform (Scotland) Bill
The Committee has responded to the call for evidence on the above Bill issued by the Finance Committee of the Scottish Parliament. The response focusses on Part 2 of the Bill which, inter alia, provides Scottish Ministers with a wide ranging order making power over a number of public bodies. The response questions the appropriateness of this power particularly over public bodies which have a role independent from the Government and which have been established by primary legislation.

The Society has sent a letter to all MSPs to express serious concerns about the lack of consultation on this Bill, which is to be debated at all three stages under the Parliament's emergency procedure.
