Aptitude Test for EU Qualified Lawyers
The Law Society of Scotland's Aptitude Test for EU Qualified
Lawyers is held in May and
November each year.
The final date for submitting applications for the
November 2012 diet is 31 July 2012.
The test is an 'open book' test and candidates are permitted to
take into the examination hall any books or materials, including
candidate's own notes.

Past exam question papers for the Aptitude Test are
available to download. There are four papers and these
consist of:
- Paper 1 - The law of property, trusts &
succession, family law
- Paper 2 - Scottish legal system, evidence and civil &
criminal procedure
- Paper 3 - European Union law and Institutions
- Paper 4 - Professional conduct, the Accounts Rules
The exam question papers are provided as an indication as to the
likely questions which may be asked and to assist the candidate
when studying. Answers are not provided.
NOTE: Change in EU Law exam paper takes effect in
2012.
Prior to 2012 the European Union Law exam question paper
was set in two parts with candidates being required to answer two
questions from Section A and two questions from Section B.
A mock paper has
been set in two sections with candidates being required to answer a
total of 4 questions (as at present).
From May 2012 question 1 from each section is
compulsory and candidates will be required to answer two further
questions from anywhere in the paper.
This took effect in May 2012.
