Society election manifesto 2011

The Law Society of Scotland has launched a manifesto ahead of the May 2011 elections, to engage with Scotland's political parties in advance of the publication of their own manifestoes. To prompt and participate in the wider public debate on issues it believes should be addressed by the next Scottish Parliament.

This is only the second time the Society has produced such a document - the first being before the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999. To prepare the manifesto, the Society has drawn on the knowledge and experiences of its members and those outside of the legal profession including businesses, universities, public bodies, enterprises and charities through a series of discussion evenings.

The manifesto is however more than a collation of the views and proposals put forward at these events. Rather, it represents a focused statement of what the Society sees as some of the key priorities for the Scottish Parliament post election.
