CPD for in-house lawyers

The ILG annually runs a series of seminars, for in-house members, which are provided free of charge.

All ILG events are listed in the Events section of this website marked as an ILG event.

These seminars are hosted at the Society's offices in Edinburgh, usually in the evenings. From there, video conferencing is available and we regularly link to a number of sites across Scotland (most commonly Aberdeen, Fort William, Glasgow, Inverness, Isle of Skye, Lerwick, Moray, Motherwell, Scottish Borders & Stornoway).  Not only does this cut down on travel time and cost for our members, but it also allows networking to take place on a local level by coming together at the video conferencing site.  Details of venues available are linked to each event. If you wish to add a location to the list, please email us or call us on 0131 476 8207 and we'll try and arrange that with you.

The programme aims to offer something for everyone and a mix of black letter law, updates and management or 'soft skills' subjects; last season we saw well over 1000 delegates attend courses on a range of topics including consumer credit, environmental risk, information management, planning, public law, vulnerable witnesses and many more.

Events are advertised by a mailing direct to all in house members every few weeks.  If you do not receive this already please email us or call us on 0131 476 8207 and we can discuss how to make sure you do get your copy.

We're always looking for ideas for events, so if there are topics you don't think are covered or you would especially like to see then please do get in touch: you can email us or call us on 0131 476 8207.  We're also able to offer larger in-house employers speakers for inhouse CPD, for example, sending a solicitor from our own in-house legal team (the Professional Practice Team) to provide a lunchtime talk on professional privilege and issues around confidentiality.  Please do contact one of our team for more information by using the details above.

Two key events are our Annual Symposium & AGM and 'The 21st Century Bar', a full day conference which is usually held at the beginning of December each year as a joint event with The Faculty of Advocates.  We'd encourage members to look out for these, and to consider supporting them as well as hoping you gain valuable new knowledge, skills and contacts from attending.

We also try to ensure that, where possible, all members can have access to notes and materials from events they were perhaps unable to attend.  Below are links to what is currently available, and we hope to build this resource over time.

Course materials

Where possible, we work with the speaker on the ILG programme of events to get slides and full-text copies of talks so that those unable to attend can access this information. Links are provided below for events from this years programme. Please do take care using these materials as although we try to ensure they are accurate, there will frequently have been changes or new case law since the delivery of the course.
