Standards for Scottish solicitors
The attached documents outline the standards of the solicitor
profession in Scotland.
In 2008, the Society undertook a review of standards with the
aim of better articulating to the public and profession the
standards currently expected of Scottish solicitors.
Part of that process has been to make the conduct
standards into practice rules. The profession approved the attached
rules at the Society's special general meeting in September 2008.
They were formally made by the Council and approved by the Lord
President thereafter.
The standards of conduct are based on the former
code of conduct and replaced the code on 1 January 2009. The
section that deals with the drafting of wills was revised in
2010.
Also attached are standards of service, which the profession
adopted at the SGM in September 2008.
To accompany the documents, the Society has produced a standards
booklet.
