Solicitors and their clients are operating in a very different business environment from that experienced in recent years. In periods of downturn, the risk of client complaints and claims is much higher.  Margins are much tighter.  New risk issues are emerging. 
 
When did you last review your own systems and procedures?  How aware are you of the current claims issues facing the profession? 
 
In the current market it is even more important that solicitors manage their exposure to risks.  This year's series of Risk Management Roadshow events gets underway shortly in Edinburgh. It will consider some of the significant emerging risks for the profession - using case studies from across a wide range of practice areas including litigation, residential and commercial property, trust and executry, commercial, employment and family.  It will highlight some of the frauds and scams which solicitors should be aware of.  It will consider what systems and procedures can best protect against the risk of costly claims and complaints.

The Roadshow adopts a workshop format in which practical and topical risk issues are discussed by reference to a series of case studies.  The issues are of general application in every area of practice.  The feedback from previous years’ Roadshows indicates that practitioners find the workshop format particularly beneficial.  It provides an opportunity for thorough discussion of the practicalities of addressing topical professional risks involved in client work and an opportunity to share and learn from the experience of fellow practitioners.
